Station waits, transfers and timetable availability are not added automatically. The answer is an average across the entered travel days, not an automatically generated itinerary. 3. Select Calculate or press Enter. 4. Select Copy result to copy the answer, or Reset to clear the form and result.
Why use this tool?
Compare train journey planning assumptions on one consistent distance and time basis.
How the calculation works
Average daily distance = total distance ÷ positive whole travel days. Use an entered rail distance and overall average for the chosen journey. Station waits, transfers and timetable availability are not added automatically. The answer is an average across the entered travel days, not an automatically generated itinerary. Durations round to the nearest second; other quantities round to at most six decimals (percentages to two). Nonzero subprecision values are identified.
Example
Worked example: Total Trip Distance = 840; Number of Travel Days = 7; Distance Unit = "kilometres". Result: 120 km per day.
Practical tip
Compare the average with the distance planned for each individual travel day.
