How the calculation works

Amount difference = second cost − first cost; percentage = difference ÷ first cost × 100, when the first cost is positive. Enter all travel legs you want to include in the commute; a return leg is not doubled automatically. Fuel estimates exclude parking, fares, tolls, maintenance and other costs unless a total-cost field explicitly includes them. A negative difference means the second option costs less. A zero first cost leaves the amount difference available but its percentage undefined. Amounts use the selected currency’s standard minor units; halfway amounts round away from zero and nonzero subminor values are identified. Currency selection labels values without an exchange rate.

Example

Worked example (GBP): First Option Cost = 120; Second Option Cost = 90. Result: -£30.00 (-25%).
