Why use this tool?
Combine comparable course scores with equal or explicit weights; use syllabus weights when that averaging model applies.
How the calculation works
Without weights, average = sum of scores ÷ number of scores. With weights, average = sum(score × weight) ÷ sum(weights). Weights must match the scores and have a positive total. Your syllabus may use weighted assessment categories, dropped scores, pass requirements or rounding rules. This point-total model applies only when those rules have already been reflected in the inputs. Percentages, point gaps and differences use up to two decimal places; averages use up to three. Smaller nonzero results use six significant digits in scientific notation. Browser floating-point rounding applies. Numeric input and result magnitudes must not exceed 9,007,199,254,740,991. Score and weight lists support up to 20,000 entries.

Practical tip
For assessments with different maxima, convert each score to the same percentage scale before averaging. To pool raw points, weight percentages by each assessment’s available points.
Frequently asked questions
Can I average raw marks from different maxima?
Only if you deliberately want that raw-score average. To compare performance fairly on a common scale, convert to percentages; the choice between equal and point-based weighting must match your grading policy.
What grading rules are assumed?
Your syllabus may use weighted assessment categories, dropped scores, pass requirements or rounding rules. This point-total model applies only when those rules have already been reflected in the inputs.
Are extra credit and fractional points supported?
Non-negative fractional points are accepted. Supplied earned points or scores above the ordinary maximum can represent existing extra credit. Targets are limited to 0–100%; future target-score planning assumes at most the stated available points. The tool does not determine your grading policy.
