Why use this tool?
Calculate the gap between marks already secured and a target percentage of the final exam maximum.
How the calculation works
Additional points needed = max(0, target percentage ÷ 100 × final points available − current points earned). The target must be from 0% to 100%, and the final available total must be positive. Mark schemes may apply scaled marks, component weights or exam-board rules. Enter marks already expressed on one compatible scale; this page does not infer those rules or grade boundaries. Percentages, point gaps and differences use up to two decimal places; averages use up to three. Smaller nonzero results use six significant digits in scientific notation. Browser floating-point rounding applies. Numeric input and result magnitudes must not exceed 9,007,199,254,740,991. Score and weight lists support up to 20,000 entries.

Current Points Earned = 24, Final Points Available = 60, Target Overall % = 70 gives “18 points needed”.
Practical tip
Final Points Available includes completed and remaining work. It is not the number of points left to earn.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tell me whether the target is still reachable?
It finds the numerical point gap. Without the remaining available points, it cannot establish reachability. Use the target-score calculator when you know completed and future possible points.
What grading rules are assumed?
Mark schemes may apply scaled marks, component weights or exam-board rules. Enter marks already expressed on one compatible scale; this page does not infer those rules or grade boundaries.
Are extra credit and fractional points supported?
Non-negative fractional points are accepted. Supplied earned points or scores above the ordinary maximum can represent existing extra credit. Targets are limited to 0–100%; future target-score planning assumes at most the stated available points. The tool does not determine your grading policy.
