Compare costs on the same basis

A lower pack price does not always mean a lower price per unit. Use the same currency and measurement unit for each option, then compare the unit costs. When sharing a purchase, choose equal shares, percentages or relative weights to match the agreement.

Savings and loan tools use the assumptions described on their own pages. Interest rate and APR are different measures: APR can include charges as well as interest. Check which rate a tool requires and compare its estimate with the provider's actual terms.

Share a gift between two people

Calculate an equal share, then compare what each person paid to find the balancing payment. The settlement tool assumes two people sharing the total equally.

  1. 1. Equal gift shares
  2. 2. Two-person settlement

Common questions

How do I compare two different pack sizes?

Use Sale Item Per Unit Cost for each pack, entering the price and quantity in the same units. Compare the resulting cost per unit; include delivery or other charges separately if relevant.

Can I split a bill unequally?

Yes. Use a weighted split when shares have relative weights, a percentage-share tool for a stated percentage, or an equal-split tool when everyone pays the same amount. Agree the allocation before using the result.
