Count the lines in pasted text, including blank lines. A line break starts a new line, even when the final line is empty.
How to use Line Counter
1. Paste or type your text or list into the box. 2. Choose any options shown, then select Count. 3. Select Copy result to copy the answer. 4. Select Reset to clear the box and start again.
Why use this tool?
Use a line count when checking a list, a text export or a short data file. It makes it easier to check how many rows you pasted before using another list tool.
How the calculation works
Count line segments separated by newline; empty text has zero lines. Text remains in the browser. Words are groups of letters or numbers. Apostrophes, hyphens and underscores stay inside a word. Character counts use Unicode code points, which can differ from visible symbols. A trailing newline creates a final empty line. Windows CRLF is treated as one break; blank lines are included.

Remove an unwanted final line break if you want the total to match a list of non-empty entries.
Frequently asked questions
Do blank lines count?
Yes. Blank lines count, and a line break at the end of your text creates one final empty line. An entirely empty box counts as zero lines.
Do wrapped lines on screen count as separate lines?
No. Only line breaks in the text separate lines. A long line that wraps visually in the text box still counts as one line.
How do I copy the result or start again?
Select Copy result after running the tool to copy the displayed answer. Reset clears the text and result, so keep a separate copy of any text you want to save.
