How the calculation works
Split trimmed text into non-empty blocks at blank lines. Text remains in the browser. Words are groups of letters or numbers. Apostrophes, hyphens and underscores stay inside a word. Character counts use Unicode code points, which can differ from visible symbols. A single line break remains in the same paragraph. Empty text counts as zero.

What separates two paragraphs?
A blank line separates paragraphs. A single line break does not. Spaces on an otherwise blank line are treated as blank.
Does this recognise formatting from a word processor?
It counts the pasted text using blank lines. Formatting such as paragraph spacing in a word processor may not create a blank line when you paste, so check the text in the box.
How do I copy the result or start again?
Select Copy result after running the tool to copy the displayed answer. Reset clears the text and result, so keep a separate copy of any text you want to save.
