Why use this tool?
Find unusually long words in a draft, a vocabulary list or a text sample. The result helps you inspect the wording; it does not decide whether a word is difficult to read.
How the calculation works
Find the greatest Unicode code-point length among word groups; list distinct longest spellings in encounter order. Text remains in the browser. Words are groups of letters or numbers. Apostrophes, hyphens and underscores stay inside a word. Character counts use Unicode code points, which can differ from visible symbols. Standalone punctuation and emoji are excluded; this does not measure visual width.

Practical tip
A long word is not automatically a poor choice. Check whether it is familiar to the reader and necessary for the subject.

Are punctuation marks counted as words?
No. A word must contain a letter or number. Apostrophes, hyphens and underscores within a word contribute to its measured length.
How do I copy the result or start again?
Select Copy result after running the tool to copy the displayed answer. Reset clears the text and result, so keep a separate copy of any text you want to save.
