Test Target Score Calculator

Find the score needed on future work to reach a target test score percentage. See when the available remaining points are insufficient.

How to use Test Target Score Calculator

1. Enter Current Points Earned, Current Points Available, Future Points Available, Target Overall % using the same scoring scale or point-total model. 2. Keep earned points and scores non-negative; enter a target between 0 and 100 where requested. 3. Select Calculate or press Enter to see score needed on future work. 4. Select Select Copy result to copy the answer or Reset to clear the form.

Why use this tool?

Calculate a required score on remaining test work using completed and future point totals.

How the calculation works

Required future points = target percentage ÷ 100 × (current points available + future points available) − current points earned. If this is at most zero, return zero; if it exceeds future available points, show Unattainable. Otherwise show the required points and percentage of future work. Test grades can use assessment-specific boundaries, scaling or weighting. This page performs the stated arithmetic only; use the applicable marking policy when interpreting the result. Percentages, point gaps and differences use up to two decimal places; averages use up to three. Smaller nonzero results use six significant digits in scientific notation. Browser floating-point rounding applies. Numeric input and result magnitudes must not exceed 9,007,199,254,740,991. Score and weight lists support up to 20,000 entries.

Example

Current Points Earned = 35, Current Points Available = 50, Future Points Available = 30, Target Overall % = 75 gives “25 points needed (83.33% of future work)”.

Practical tip

Enter only the points for completed work in Current Points Available, and only remaining possible points in Future Points Available. The target is based on their combined final total.

Frequently asked questions

Why can the target be unattainable?

The required future points exceed the remaining possible points. The model caps future work at 100% of its stated available points and does not assume future extra credit.

What grading rules are assumed?

Test grades can use assessment-specific boundaries, scaling or weighting. This page performs the stated arithmetic only; use the applicable marking policy when interpreting the result.

Are extra credit and fractional points supported?

Non-negative fractional points are accepted. Supplied earned points or scores above the ordinary maximum can represent existing extra credit. Targets are limited to 0–100%; future target-score planning assumes at most the stated available points. The tool does not determine your grading policy.
